Southern Marine Surveys, Passionate About Boats!

How do we Work?

Every job is individual, therefore, I like to discuss your requirements, I like to understand your proposed usages for the the vessel, and then I can put together a suitable survey package for you. Where possible I like to build and working rapport with my clients, this I find beneficial for all involved.

Associations

I'm a fiercely independent surveyor, having been one of a small number of surveyors graduated from the International Boat Building Training Collage (IBTC) in Lowestoft, I am a member of Marine Survey Associates (Previously Known as British Marine Surveyors Europe, or BMSE). I was taught to survey to the standards of the YDSA.

Reputation

I have a reputation for detailed, methodical surveys, I take a lot of time over all works, I don't believe in the quick in, quick out, commercial type approach. I'm very much an individual as you'll come to know, one who does their best to support and help you . I have a notable following and have worked off recommendation almost exclusively for many years.

Do you have fixed pricing?

All surveys are costed individually, rates charged depend on survey location, boat type, and diary space - if you need a survey carrying out near another clients job, I can often quote a better price as travel costs become shared.

Are you Expensive?

I try to offer good value across my full range of services, though given the costs of insurance, travel and the like, I do need to charge reasonable rates to allow me to keep providing this service. I try to be competitively priced at all times and can often be considered at the cheaper end of the market - this however is not at all reflected in my work, quite the opposite in fact,  I believe in fair rates, not overcharging.

It must be said, relative to the cost of a boat purchase, surveys can seem expensive for vessels at the value orientated end of the market, whereas for later larger vessels, prices could perhaps seem very low, however, with a significantly aging fleet for vessels from the 1970's, 80's, 90's and 2000's, such surveys should be considered essential.
